Whitfield/Murray Community Marriage Covenant

I believe that marriage is a covenant intended by God to be a lifelong relationship between a man and a woman. I promise to God, to my family, and my community to encourage couples to remain steadfast in unconditional love, reconciliation, and sexual purity, while purposefully growing in their covenant marriage.

I,  ___________________________, pledge to uphold the following minimum standards as part of my marriage ministry to all engaged couples seeking to me married in the religious institution I represent.

•I will request a preparation period of four to six months of all couples asking me to preside over their wedding ceremony. When it is not possible, I will take circumstances into consideration and make adjustment where I believe it to be appropriate.

•I will require the couple to attend four to six marital preparation sessions.

•I will use the preparation period to encourage the spiritual formation of the couple.

•I will encourage the training of mentoring couples to assist young couples during the crucial first years of marriage.

•I will encourage participation in classes and workshops for marriage enrichment, and intervention services for stressed marriages.

•I will cooperate with other congregations and organizations to share marriage building resources and events.

By signing the Whitfield/Murray Community Marriage Policy, I commit to remain steadfast in these standards, joining other religious leaders from across North Georgia in strengthening marriages and families.
